Rob Leone, MPP Cambridge-North Dumfries – Ontario PC
In October of 2011, Rob ran to represent his riding of Cambridge and North Dumfries as a member of the Ontario PC Caucus alongside Leader Tim Hudak in order to help make life better for families in our community. Since being elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, he has worked hard to provide relief for family budgets and reduce bureaucratic red tape, helping businesses create jobs. Shortly after being elected, Rob was named Critic for Training, Colleges and Universities. In this role, he is responsible for holding the government accountable and advising Tim Hudak on how to link our education system with the needs of an innovative knowledge-based economy. Most recently Rob was named Critic for Education. Rob is also the PC Lead on the Estimates Committee, where he played an integral role in helping to uncover the Liberal gas plant scandal.
A highly decorated academic, Rob attended McMaster University and obtained a BA (Hon.) in Political Science. He then moved on to the University of Guelph to continue his education, earning an MA in Public Policy and Administration. Finally, he returned to McMaster to complete his PhD in Comparative Public Policy, publishing his thesis on the topic of Ministerial Responsibility. Rob continued his academic career at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he was an Assistant Professor, teaching courses on Leadership, Journalism and Political Science.
Rob is also a successful entrepreneur, formerly running a small public policy consulting firm, as well as an accomplished author. He has published a university textbook on public administration and also written several academic articles in national and international journals.
Although he has achieved much success in his academic and entrepreneurial pursuits, his proudest achievement is being a husband to his wife, Kate, and a father to his three young boys. Born and raised in the city he is now proud to represent, Rob attended Southwood Secondary School, while Kate went to Preston High School. Working as a clinical psychologist in the region, Kate is also a distinguished academic, holding a PhD in Psychology.
